Me - the mom

     Hello and welcome!  Sit down and let me get you a snack.  I hope you plan on visiting for a while.  I like company on a lazy day almost as much as I like being me.  


    First things first, I make mistakes.  I choose to learn from these mistakes.  I am a sinner saved by God’s grace through Jesus who was crucified for my sin, buried in a borrowed tomb, rose the third day and went to sit at His Father’s right hand to judge the earth.  


    I choose to set my moral compass to align with the Christian Bible.  If you don’t choose this, that’s okay.  That is a decision you have to make and live with.  It is not my assignment to judge your decision.  My purpose is to help and to heal.  Nothing more, nothing less.  As it states in Isaiah 61:1, “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound…”


    It took me a long time to see this truth.  As I said, I make mistakes.  I have “a past”.  I cannot change or fix the past. I choose to live in the now, not in the past.  I choose to act now, not react to the past.  I choose because it is within my ability to choose.  I choose to keep moving forward and continuing to improve.  I choose the better things. 


    Second, I love to learn about everything! Food, sewing, gardening, mechanics, electricity, theology - you get the point. As long as I am exploring, learning, and asking questions, I’m usually pretty happy. We only get so much time on this earth - use it for what you enjoy!


    What I have chosen to write about are some basic things that I learned through trial and error… lots of errors.  It is my hope in giving you this information that you will avoid some of the errors I have made.  I hope that you will take this information and mull it over, turn it around, and form your own opinions and judgments for what is right for you.  Not everyone is the same.  You have to decide what to take and apply to your life and what to leave. You have to choose. You get to choose. 


    One more thing… Err on the side of loving too much.  People will hurt you.  People will take advantage of you.  Keep trying.  Keep loving.  Keep praying.  It all works out in the end.

The House Rules

Hi! Welcome back!  I feel like I need to give some background on this one... I function better within boundaries.  I think most people function better when they know the rules.  How can you win the game if you don't know the rules?  What if someone cheats?  What if you bend the rules...you know, just a little?  I have found through the harsh experience of living, I prefer solid right or wrong.  I tend to overthink things.  For instance, the other day I was thinking about fasting.  You know, the time when you choose to go without food or something you find pleasurable in order to focus on God.  (See Matthew 6:16 - when you fast... not if - when.) I was wondering, "if I drink unsweetened tea does that break my fast"?  So I go back and forth trying to hash this out in my brain until I just literally throw up my hands and say, "Lord, what's your rule?"  After a bit more (calm) research, I can say, I know what I do when I fast....

In general, people do better when surrounded by good people. Proverbs 13:20 (NLT) says, "walk with the wise and become wise; associate with fools and get in trouble." Further, 1 Corinthians 15:33 reminds us "do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character.”" Humans crave interaction and relationship and will be drawn to good character. Be a good friend.      To be a good friend, keep your promise or don’t promise at all. Be honest with your words and actions. No one likes harsh or mean people.
