Chapter 10 Recipes and Realities Buying food is a basic skill we must learn. Food can take a large chunk of our spendable income if we aren’t smart about buying. There are a few rules of thumb we can count on: -don’t buy more than you can eat, gift, or preserve. -if you buy it you need to eat it, gift it, or preserve it. Don’t let it rot. -it is possible to grow some of your own food. Growth takes time but it’s worth it. There are ways to spend less with little effort. But for maximum savings, and the better choice for nutrition, plan on devoting some time to the food you eat. First make a meal plan. What do I intend to eat on what day? You need to work this around your schedule, too. For instance, if you always go out with friends on Friday night, then plan on eating out.
